Yes indeed IgE is a cruel task master but then again so is RAST testing since it is only 75-85% sensitive. Sometimes a negative RAST is misleading. In the face of an apparent sensitivity - the symptoms got better on an elimination/ rotation diet - I would give more credence to clinical observation. There is more to allergy than IgE but there is also more to allergy testing than RAST.

yehram comments on The Case of the Desperate Woman

wOW!! =D like the commentor on the post before this, i totally found this accidently while looking for a sample of a patient case history (for some inane bio homework assignment) and i've got to say, this is DAMNINGLY interesting!! i'm currently a highschool student in a medically oriented academy, and this blog has opened mine eyES!!

~an allergist, i'll have to consider that in the future (nevermind that i thought doctors didn't have time to blog or have a life at all) heck, instead of just watching HOUSE all day, i can get some real insight into a physician's job~ (that isn't poop boring) so tHANK YOU!!

i'll certainly be passing this on to some friends and, well, tOODLEs!! and UPDATE BLAHZ!!

Carmel comments on Advanced SLIT Case History 102: The Strange Case of the Pentagon Worker's Malady

I just stumbled upon your website while looking for the "cost to see an allergist" and this is absolutely fascinating. I have escalating multiple food allergies and sensitivities. I have been receiving EPD for the past 3.5 years with poor success. I don t know if you are familiar with this therapy. In my case, some shots work well, while others don t work at all. I know I need to address leaky gut, but think I am reacting to most foods, leaving me with nothing to eat in order to rest the gut. I avoid wheat, dairy, corn, soy, eggs, beef, and react to most other foods. I feel like I am running in circles...Can a work up and treatment plan be done without frequent visits to your office...your patients are truly lucky!

Angry Allergist comments on Advanced Slit Case History 101: Eosinophilic esophagitis, migraines, food sensitivities, asthma

Candida Sufferer,
Thanks for visiting my site & posting a comment. Of course I cannot be sure that Candida triggered fatigue at all...in my profession, I seem to see three types of illnesses:
1) Illnesses that have NO allergy component (ie., a broken leg)
2) Illnesses that have ENTIRELLY allergic (i.e., itchy eyes from cat dander)
3) Illnesses that MAY HAVE a commponent of allergic illness contributing to them (i.e., fatigue)
Of course this patient's fatigue is multifactorial--we can ALL be tired from multiple stressors. Could Candida be playing a role? Possibly.

As to publication--my goal on this Blog is to make the practicing Allergist think "outside the box" and to stimulate discussion. I hope I'm succeeding!
Thanks again for the post.
Angry Allergist
